Where we ride

Big skies, quiet lanes, wild edges and villages full of character. Teesdale is the kind of place that stays with you.

Teesdale has the big skies and open landscapes people often hope for, but also something quieter and more characterful. Around Barnard Castle, along the River Tees, through the villages, across the moors and out towards the reservoirs, this is a landscape that feels generous, varied and deeply itself.

It is a beautiful place to ride a bike.

Not because it is polished or predictable, but because it feels real. A ride here can take you from a market town to a riverside track, from quiet lanes to open moorland, from a village café to a view that stops you in your tracks. There is always that lovely feeling of travelling through a place properly, rather than simply passing through it.

That is what makes Teesdale so special. It rewards a slower pace. There is always something to notice: the changing light, the line of the river, the feel of the ground beneath your tyres, the shift from one part of the dale to another.

Gravel sits at the heart of Pedal Teesdale, but this landscape lends itself beautifully to quiet-road riding and more adventurous mountain bike days too, and bespoke rides can be shaped with that in mind where suitable.

At Pedal Teesdale, that is what I want to share: not only the routes themselves, but the feeling of this place. My hope is always that people leave having enjoyed the ride, felt part of the day, and fallen a little bit in love with Teesdale too.
